CS/CS/CS/HB 915 Summary

• Revises certification examination requirements for building code inspectors, plans examiners, and administrators; allows Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board to issue provisional certificates valid up to 3 years for newly employed professionals.

• Requires licensees and certificateholders in construction, engineering, architecture, and fire protection fields to complete code-related training as part of continuing education requirements.

• Modifies the Florida Homeowners' Construction Recovery Fund by expanding eligible claimants, adjusting payment limits ($50,000 for Division I contracts after July 1, 2004; $15,000 for Division II contracts after July 1, 2015), and requiring contractors to notify homeowners that recovery fund payments are limited.

• Provides exemptions for low-voltage landscape lighting installations and apartment maintenance technicians performing minor repairs to water heaters and HVAC systems under specified conditions.

• Creates the Calder Sloan Swimming Pool Electrical-Safety Task Force to study electrical safety standards for swimming pools and submit recommendations by November 1, 2015; effective July 1, 2015.
