North Broward Hospital District must pay $608,554.78 to Charles Pandrea as compensation for his wife Janet Pandrea's death resulting from medical negligence.

Janet Pandrea died on April 2, 2002, after being misdiagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma when she actually had a benign thymoma, leading to unnecessary chemotherapy that caused fatal complications.

The hospital's pathologist, Dr. Peter Tsivis, breached the standard of care by misinterpreting tissue samples, causing Mrs. Pandrea to undergo harmful treatment.

A Broward County jury returned a verdict of $808,554.78 on June 8, 2005; the hospital has already paid the statutory limit of $200,000, leaving $608,554.78 in remaining obligations.

Attorney fees, lobbying fees, costs, and related expenses may not exceed 25 percent of the $608,554.78 award, and this payment constitutes sole compensation for all claims arising from Janet Pandrea's death.
