CS/HB 7127 Summary - Higher Education

• Renames "applied technology diploma program" as "college credit certificate program" throughout Florida's education statutes and updates related definitions and references

• Allows career centers and charter technical career centers to use the "technical college" designation if they offer terminal certificate programs approved by accredited agencies

• Removes a temporary prohibition on Florida College System institution baccalaureate degree proposals (effective through May 31, 2015) and removes special authorizations for St. Petersburg College to establish additional bachelor's degree programs

• Revises apprenticeship and job-training program definitions and criteria, including updating terminology from "journeymen" to "journeyworker"

• Modifies tuition and fees for workforce education programs, establishing different rates for career certificates, applied technology diplomas, and college credit certificates effective July 1, 2015

• Changes Board of Governors accountability reporting deadline from March 31 to December 31 each year and allows students to enroll in gateway courses under certain circumstances

• Effective date: July 1, 2015
