Recognizes March 24, 2015, as "Florida Gulf Coast University Day" in Florida to celebrate FGCU's contributions to higher education and student success.

FGCU was authorized by the Florida Legislature in May 1991 and opened on August 25, 1997, serving nearly 15,000 students with 51 undergraduate, 28 graduate, and two doctoral programs.

University has contributed more than 1.5 million hours of community service since 1997 and faculty have conducted over $184 million in research and sponsored programs.

Campus features 400 acres of restored and preserved wetlands and operates a 15-acre solar field generating 85 percent of electric power for three academic buildings, saving $700,000 annually in energy costs.

Athletic programs achieved notable success including women's basketball ranking 20th nationally in 2015, men's basketball's 2013 Sweet 16 NCAA Tournament run, and multiple conference championships in soccer and swimming.
