Recognizes July 2015 as "Fibroid Awareness Month" in the State of Florida

Identifies uterine fibroids as the most common benign tumors in the uterus and the leading cause of hysterectomies, accounting for nearly one-half of all such procedures

Notes that uterine fibroids affect as many as three out of four women during their lives, with up to 80 percent of women by age 50 experiencing them, and African-American women experiencing incidence rates three to five times greater than the general population

Acknowledges significant health and economic impacts including pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, reproductive dysfunction, and substantial costs related to obstetric outcomes, procedures, and lost work productivity in women aged 25 to 54

States that public awareness would empower residents and encourage earlier diagnosis, increased research, better treatment options, and development of a cure for uterine fibroids
