City of Hialeah authorized to pay $485,000 to the Estate of Lazaro Rodriguez and his legal survivors to settle a wrongful death claim resulting from a fatal 2000 traffic collision caused by a police officer running a red light.

Payment schedule requires $385,000 on July 1, 2015, and $100,000 on July 1, 2016, with the city having already paid $200,000 plus $25,000 in costs under the settlement agreement.

Attorney fees, lobbying fees, costs, and similar expenses are limited to a maximum of 25 percent of the total $485,000 award.

The appropriation constitutes full and final settlement of all present and future claims related to the wrongful death of Lazaro Rodriguez, with claimants required to provide a complete release of liability to the city.
