Average annual care costs range from $340,000 to $1.04 million in the first year after injury, with lifetime costs estimated between $1.5 million and $4.6 million depending on severity.

The Darrell Gwynn Foundation will conduct educational outreach during the awareness week in partnership with local governments and schools to inform the public about spinal cord injury causes, treatments, and prevention.
