Creates section 381.988, F.S., requiring physicians to screen minors for autism spectrum disorder following American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines when parents report observing symptoms, and refer to specialists if medically necessary

Allows parents/legal guardians direct access to autism screening, evaluation, or diagnosis through the Early Steps program or appropriate specialists (psychologists, psychiatrists, neurologists, developmental/behavioral pediatricians) without a referral for at least three visits per policy year

Amends health insurance laws to require group health plans and HMO contracts issued or renewed after January 1, 2016 to provide direct patient access to autism specialists for a minimum of three visits annually without requiring prior authorization

Maintains existing autism coverage requirements including $36,000 annual benefit limit and $200,000 lifetime maximum for treatment services including speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and applied behavior analysis

Effective date of July 1, 2015
