Used tire retailers are prohibited from selling unsafe used passenger or light truck tires for mounting on vehicles, unless the tires are sold for recapping.

Unsafe used tires are defined as those with tread depth worn to 2/32-inch or less, damage exposing reinforcing plies, or improper repairs in the tread shoulder, belt edge, sidewall, or bead area.

Additional unsafe tire conditions include evidence of temporary tire sealant without proper repair, defaced or removed tire identification numbers, inner liner or bead damage, or internal separation indicated by bulges or irregular tread wear.

Violations of the prohibition constitute deceptive and unfair trade practices enforceable under Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.

The act takes effect July 1, 2015.
