Florida Senate commends the Independent Colleges & Universities of Florida on its 50th anniversary of service since its founding in 1965 by 11 college and university presidents.

The organization's 31 member institutions serve over 155,000 students at 135 sites across Florida and offer more than 400 online degree programs.

Member institutions award over 60 percent of degrees in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, health care, business, and education fields.

In 2015, independent colleges and universities are projected to award 25 percent of all bachelor's degrees, over 50 percent of all first professional degrees, and over 40 percent of all advanced degrees in Florida.

The system collectively holds $10 billion in assets, employs 35,000 people, and operates on annual budgets totaling over $5 billion.
