SB 1382 Summary

• Adds new definition of "charitable organization" to include organizations established for benevolent, educational, philanthropic, humane, scientific, artistic, patriotic, social welfare, public health, environmental conservation, or civic purposes.

• Exempts educational institutions and charitable organizations from certain raffle regulations if the raffle either splits proceeds evenly between the organization and winner, or awards a nonmonetary prize with all proceeds going to the organization.

• Excludes raffles conducted under the new exemption from being considered "solicitations" under Florida's charitable solicitation regulations.

• Permits charitable organizations and educational institutions to notify winners about prizes as part of raffles conducted under the exemption, removing restrictions on prize notification schemes.

• Effective date: July 1, 2015.
