CS/HB 571 - Music Therapists Registration

• Creates registration requirement for music therapists in Florida, effective July 1, 2016, to protect public health and safety.

• Applicants must submit proof of board certification from the national Certification Board for Music Therapists, a completed application, and fees not to exceed $50.

• Registered music therapists are authorized to accept referrals, assess clients, develop individualized treatment plans, and collaborate with healthcare providers without diagnosing or assessing physical, mental, or communication disorders.

• Registration must be renewed biennially with proof of active board certification and fees not exceeding $50; registrants must notify the Department of Health within 10 days of address or certification status changes.

• Exemptions permit licensed professionals, certified practitioners, accredited music therapy students, and supervised practitioners to use music in their work without registration if they do not represent themselves as music therapists.
