HB 723 Summary

• Amends section 553.80 of Florida Statutes to add protections for property owners in building code enforcement actions.

• Prohibits local governments from imposing or enforcing fines, penalties, or liens against property owners for tenant noncompliance with Florida Building Code standards when the owner had no knowledge of the violation.

• Provides property owners with a 180-day cure period after receiving notice from the enforcing authority to remediate tenant-committed noncompliance before penalties can be assessed.

• Takes effect July 1, 2016.
