• Redefines "excepted benefits" in health insurance policies (such as dental, vision, disability, and long-term care coverage) and specifies which insurance mandates do not apply to these types of limited benefits when offered separately.

• Modifies provisions governing health maintenance organization (HMO) contracts, including renewal requirements, discontinuation procedures, and the ability to modify coverage at renewal time in various market segments.
