CS/CS/HB 965 - Firesafety

• State Fire Marshal must establish uniform firesafety standards for assisted living facilities pursuant to section 633.206, replacing previous departmental standards.

• Facilities issued building permits or certificates of occupancy before July 1, 2016 may optionally remain under 1994 and 1995 NFPA 101 standards, but must comply with current standards if they undergo Level III building alterations or seek unauthorized features.

• Local governments and utilities may only charge fees for automatic fire sprinkler system installation and maintenance that do not exceed actual expenses incurred for properly licensed facilities.

• Facilities must conduct a minimum of two resident elopement prevention and response drills annually with all administrators and direct care staff participating and documented.

• Act takes effect July 1, 2016.
