Each elementary, middle, and high school in Florida must have at least one full-time certified school counselor meeting requirements in s. 1012.55(1)(b).

Certified school counselors must provide a student-centered, data-informed, and outcome-oriented program integrated into curricula that prepares students in prekindergarten through grade 12 for postsecondary education, training, or careers using Florida's School Counseling Framework.

Counselors must spend a minimum of 80 percent of contracted work time on direct delivery of services to students, faculty, administrators, parents, school staff, and the community.

Delivery of services includes academic and social counseling, core curricula programming, career and educational counseling, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, community agency referrals, educational consultations, followup services, and conflict resolution.

Certified school counselors must abide by the American School Counselor Association's Ethical Standards for School Counselors, effective July 1, 2016.
