CS/HB 1293 Summary

• Amends Florida Statutes section 383.14 to require the Department of Health to expand newborn screening to include adrenoleukodystrophy testing.

• Mandates screening implementation within 1 year after adrenoleukodystrophy is adopted for inclusion on the federal recommended uniform screening panel.

• Department must adopt and enforce rules following consultation with the Genetics and Newborn Screening Advisory Council to administer the expanded screening program.

• Maintains existing newborn screening requirements for phenylketonuria and other metabolic, hereditary, and congenital disorders deemed necessary by the department.

• Effective date: July 1, 2016.
