HB 1329 Summary

• Require pharmacies to offer prescription lock boxes for sale at each store location and display a sign measuring at least 4 inches by 5 inches advertising their availability.

• Define "prescription lock box" as a box or bag with a locking mechanism that cannot be tampered with or opened without extreme force.

• Direct the Department of Health to develop and distribute a written pamphlet containing educational information about pain management precautions, controlled substance misuse and abuse, dependency and addiction risks, proper storage and disposal, and addiction support resources and helplines.

• Require pharmacists to distribute the pamphlet to consumers when dispensing prescriptions or controlled substances and prohibit pharmacies from charging any fee for the pamphlet.

• Effective date is July 1, 2016.
