On September 10, 2012, Alex Zaldivar, Brienna Campos, and Remington Campos were attacked and shot during a home invasion robbery by Bessman Okafor, who was being monitored by Orange County Corrections Department's Community Corrections Division.

Orange County agreed to settle the Estate of Alex Zaldivar's claim for $300,000, Brienna Campos's claim for $200,000, and Remington Campos's claim for $200,000.

Orange County is authorized to appropriate and pay $200,000 to the Estate of Alex Zaldivar, $100,000 to Brienna Campos, and $100,000 to Remington Campos as the remaining unpaid balances of the settlement agreements.

The combined payments from Orange County and this act provide sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from the September 10, 2012 incident.

Attorney fees, lobbying fees, costs, and similar expenses relating to this claim may not exceed 25 percent of the total amount awarded under the act.
