Appropriates $1.75 million from the General Revenue Fund to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles for relief of the Estate of Danielle Maudsley for her death resulting from negligence by Trooper Daniel Cole and the Florida Highway Patrol on September 19, 2011.

Danielle Maudsley, age 20, was arrested for a traffic infraction, attempted to flee a Pinellas Park FHP substation while handcuffed, and was struck with an electronic control device by Trooper Cole, causing her to suffer traumatic brain injury and remain in a vegetative state until her death on September 15, 2013.

Combined with the $200,000 already paid by the Division of Risk Management under statutory liability limits, the $1.75 million appropriation totals $1.95 million, which represents the amount a jury could reasonably have awarded at trial.

Attorney fees, lobbying fees, costs, and similar expenses related to this claim may not exceed 25 percent of the amount awarded under this act.

The combined payments satisfy all present and future claims arising from the factual circumstances resulting in Ms. Maudsley's death; act takes effect upon becoming law.
