Florida House Resolution honoring U.S. Navy Captain Edgar Dean "Ed" Mitchell, who died February 4, 2016, on the eve of the 45th anniversary of his Apollo 14 mission

Mitchell became the sixth person to walk on the moon on February 5, 1971, landing the Lunar Module "Antares" in the Fra Mauro Highlands region

Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for advising on the Apollo 13 rescue effort that returned astronauts home safely after the onboard explosion

Held degrees from Carnegie Institute of Technology, U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, and a doctorate from MIT; selected for Apollo program in April 1966; retired from NASA in 1972

Resolution extends sympathy to Mitchell's family and honors all who work or have worked in Florida's Space Program
