Leon County is authorized and directed to appropriate $1.15 million to Angela Sanford as compensation for injuries and damages sustained in a September 5, 2013 accident involving a Leon County ambulance operated by employee Benjamin Hunter.

The ambulance entered an intersection against a red light at over 40 miles per hour and broadsided Sanford's vehicle, causing life-threatening injuries including traumatic brain bleed, ruptured organs, multiple fractures, and permanent cognitive and physical disabilities that ended her career as an elementary school teacher.

The $1.15 million payment, combined with the $300,000 already paid by Leon County to other accident victims, constitutes sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from this accident.

Attorney fees, lobbying fees, costs, and similar expenses related to this claim are limited to 25 percent of the total award.

Leon County's liability insurance with OneBeacon Insurance Group will cover 100 percent of the appropriation up to the policy limit of $3 million.
