CS for SB 168 - Traffic Infraction Detectors

• Repeals all statutes authorizing the use of traffic infraction detectors (automated cameras) to enforce traffic signal violations, effective July 1, 2019.

• Eliminates the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles' authority to use traffic infraction enforcement officers to detect and enforce red light violations.

• Removes penalty distributions to counties and municipalities from traffic infraction detector violations, consolidating all traffic signal violation penalties under uniform law enforcement officer procedures.

• Eliminates special provisions that allowed traffic signal violations detected by automated cameras to result in no driver license points and prohibited use for insurance rate-setting purposes.

• Conforms related statutes regarding citation procedures, penalty amounts, license plate registration holds, and driver license point assessments to remove all references to automated traffic enforcement systems.
