Requires students entering grade 9 in the 2016-2017 school year to earn one-half credit in health education as a separate, independent requirement from physical education.

Allows students to waive the health education requirement by taking and scoring a "C" or better on a health education assessment developed by the Department of Education.

Separates health education from physical education courses, so health content is no longer integrated into the one-credit physical education requirement.

Reduces the required elective credits from eight to seven and one-half credits for students entering grade 9 in the 2016-2017 school year, unless they waive the health education requirement (in which case eight elective credits are required).

Takes effect July 1, 2016.
