Changes requirement for school districts from may to shall establish school resource officer programs through cooperative agreements with law enforcement agencies or direct employment.

Mandates at least one school resource officer or school safety officer be assigned to each public school campus and present from one-half hour before first class until one-half hour after last class ends.

Allows auxiliary law enforcement officers, in addition to certified law enforcement officers, to serve as school resource officers and school safety officers.

School resource officers remain under the direction of the law enforcement agency for employment matters while coordinating with school principals on instructional activities.

Takes effect July 1, 2016.
