HB 5 (2017) - Faculty Recruitment

• Requires state universities to conduct gap analyses of the state's job market demands and use them to identify internship opportunities in high-demand fields for student mentorship and employment.

• Establishes the World Class Faculty and Scholar Program to fund state university efforts in recruiting and retaining exemplary faculty and research scholars through investments in research clusters, infrastructure, and professional development.

• Establishes the State University Professional and Graduate Degree Excellence Program to fund quality improvement efforts in medicine, law, and graduate-level business programs at state universities to enhance their national prominence.

• Amends the Alec P. Courtelis University Facility Enhancement Challenge Grant Program by deleting the trust fund and authorizing the Legislature to prioritize funding for projects with matching funds available before June 30, 2011 for the 2017-2018 fiscal year.

• Takes effect July 1, 2017.
