HB 37 - Law Enforcement Certification

• Requires law enforcement, correctional, and correctional probation officers to pass a job-related psychological evaluation by a licensed mental health professional before initial employment or appointment.

• Mandates all officers pass a job-related psychological evaluation every 4 years as a condition of continued employment or appointment.

• Requires all criminal justice training schools to receive Public Safety Training Academy Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. by January 1, 2019, and maintain that accreditation or lose their certificate of compliance.

• Updates minimum qualification requirements and corresponding cross-references throughout Florida Statutes sections 409.1757, 943.131, 943.1395, 943.1397, 943.17296, 943.173, 943.19, and 943.253.

• Takes effect July 1, 2017.
