Creates section 943.1727, Florida Statutes, requiring the Department of Law Enforcement to establish a continued employment training component on autism spectrum disorder.

Training component must include instruction on recognizing symptoms and characteristics of individuals on the autism spectrum and appropriate law enforcement responses to such individuals.

Completion of the autism training may count toward the 40 hours of instruction required for continued employment or appointment of law enforcement officers under section 943.135.

Autism spectrum disorder is defined by reference to section 627.6686, Florida Statutes.

Act becomes effective October 1, 2017.
