CS/HB 525 Summary

• Authorizes students to use credits earned from completing registered apprenticeship or preapprenticeship programs under Florida Department of Education chapter 446 to satisfy high school graduation credit requirements in career and technical education or elective categories.

• Requires the State Board of Education to approve and identify eligible apprenticeship and preapprenticeship programs in the Course Code Directory from which earned credits may be applied toward graduation.

• Amends section 1003.4282, Florida Statutes, to add apprenticeship and preapprenticeship completion as a pathway for earning high school credits alongside other career education courses.

• Takes effect July 1, 2017.
