A person with a valid driver license may operate an autonomous vehicle or engage autonomous technology to operate a vehicle in autonomous mode on Florida roads if equipped with autonomous technology as defined in statute.

Autonomous technology is deemed the operator of an autonomous vehicle operating in autonomous mode for purposes of traffic and motor vehicle law compliance, regardless of whether a human is physically present in the vehicle.

Autonomous technology is deemed to be validly licensed under section 322.03 and satisfies all examinations and physical acts required of a human operator.

Sections 316.062, 316.063, 316.065, and 316.1975 do not apply to autonomous vehicles operating in autonomous mode if the vehicle owner promptly contacts law enforcement to report any crash.

Autonomous vehicles must have a system to safely alert an operator if autonomous technology failure is detected, requiring the operator to take control or enabling the vehicle to stop completely if the operator cannot respond.
