CS/HB 757 - Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Summary

• Requires the Just Read, Florida! Office to provide training to prekindergarten through grade 5 teachers and reading coaches on research-based reading strategies, intervention strategies, and technology tools to improve student reading performance.

• Mandates each early learning coalition coordinate with the Office of Early Learning to assign student identification numbers to children enrolling in the Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program.

• Requires prekindergarten providers to share pre- and post-assessment results with parents within 10 days and report aggregate results to early learning coalitions and school districts within 30 days after assessment administration.

• Authorizes children who complete a school-year prekindergarten program but are at risk of not meeting performance standards to reenroll in another school-year program beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, limited to one reenrollment.

• Appropriates $10 million from the General Revenue Fund for fiscal year 2017-2018 to develop training for prekindergarten through grade 3 teachers, reading coaches, and school principals on research-based reading instruction and interventions.
