CS/HB 901 Summary

• Changes Florida Building Code update cycle from every 3 years to every 5 years and requires the commission to provide fiscal impact statements when updating the code.

• Authorizes the Florida Building Commission to adopt the most current National Electrical Code if delay would cause undue hardship to stakeholders or threaten public health, safety, and welfare.

• Expands the Florida Building Commission membership from 11 to 27 members, adding representatives from disabilities organizations, swimming pool contractors, green building industry, natural gas distribution, public education, insurance industry, and the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

• Requires local amendments to the Florida Building Code to include fiscal impact statements documenting costs and benefits to local government, property owners, building owners, and industry.

• Effective date: July 1, 2017.
