Amends Florida Statutes section 1003.42 to require K-12 instruction on the history of the African continent and African Americans, including the history of African peoples before political conflicts that led to slavery around the world and in the United States.

Mandates curriculum include the passage of enslaved persons to America, the enslavement experience, abolition, and the contributions of African Americans globally and in the United States to society.

Requires instructional materials to include African American contributions to American and global society.

Adds the history of Africa and contributions of African Americans to the required character-development program curriculum for kindergarten through grade 12.

Takes effect July 1, 2017.
