HB 1155 Summary

• School boards in each public school district must adopt policies by July 1, 2018 requiring persons (other than at normal dismissal) to present valid picture identification to retrieve students in prekindergarten through grade 12.

• "Picture identification" is defined as a valid state driver license, state identification card, or United States Military identification card.

• Nonpublic schools exempt from licensure, licensed child care facilities, large family child care homes, private schools, and faith-based child care facilities must adopt identical student release policies by July 1, 2018.

• Public school district policies must be provided to the Department of Education, while nonpublic school and child care facility policies must be maintained on premises and available for inspection.

• The act takes effect July 1, 2017.
