CS/HB 1199 Summary

• Department of Juvenile Justice must develop and maintain updated information and materials about resources and services available to parents and legal custodians who are victims of domestic violence committed by children, in collaboration with organizations specializing in family and domestic violence.

• Department shall make available information describing resources under chapter laws addressing child services, domestic violence services, and juvenile justice services including prevention, diversion, detention, and alternative placements.

• Department shall post information on its website and provide materials to certified domestic violence centers, organizations serving domestic violence victims, clerks of court, law enforcement agencies, and other appropriate organizations for public distribution.

• Law enforcement basic skills training courses must include a minimum of 6 hours of training in handling domestic violence cases, with the addition of specific training on child-to-parent cases and issues involved in such cases.

• Act takes effect July 1, 2017.
