HB 6007 Summary: Traffic Infraction Detectors

• Repeals all statutes authorizing the use of traffic infraction detectors (automated cameras) to enforce traffic signal violations for the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, counties, and municipalities.

• Eliminates definitions of "traffic infraction detector" and "local hearing officer" from Florida Statutes and removes provisions governing detector installation, use, and penalty distribution.

• Modifies penalty structure for traffic signal violations enforced by law enforcement officers versus traffic infraction enforcement officers, with different fine distributions to state funds, counties, and municipalities.

• Prohibits individuals from receiving commissions or per-ticket fees based on violations detected through traffic infraction detectors and prohibits vendors from receiving fees based on detection numbers.

• Removes points from driver's license records for traffic signal violations enforced by traffic infraction enforcement officers and prohibits use of such violations for setting motor vehicle insurance rates.

• Effective date: July 1, 2020.
