Florida State University is directed to draw a warrant for $1.8 million from unobligated university funds to compensate parents Wendy Smith and Dennis Darling, Sr. for the death of their son Devaughn Darling.

Devaughn Darling collapsed and died on February 21, 2001, while participating in football preseason training at Florida State University.

The $1.8 million payment, combined with the $200,000 already paid by the Division of Risk Management, comprises the full settlement of a $2 million consent judgment against Florida State University.

Attorney fees from the appropriation are capped at $360,000, lobbying fees at $90,000, and other costs and expenses at $40,785.27.

The act becomes effective upon becoming law.
