SB 286 Summary

• Amends Florida education law to require comprehensive health education in public schools to include information about the dangers and signs of human trafficking.

• Human trafficking curriculum must cover warning signs of trafficking, terminology used by traffickers, red flags indicating a trafficker's intent, popular websites used by traffickers, and resources for students to get help.

• Allows students to opt out of the human trafficking education portion of health class by providing the school with a written note from a parent.

• Takes effect July 1, 2017.
