FL S1000

Authorizes buildings constructed and obtaining occupancy before 1965 to have balcony guard openings that allow passage of a sphere greater than 4 inches in diameter, provided the opening is less than 42 inches high.

Requires the balcony guard to have been approved as part of the original building design and be at least 40 inches high.

Limits the exemption to buildings designated as historic properties, contributing properties to historic districts, or eligible for designation as local historic properties under local preservation ordinances.

Supersedes any conflicting provisions in the Florida Fire Prevention Code.

Effective July 1, 2017.
