• Requires barbers to complete a 1-hour course on domestic violence and sexual assault awareness as a condition of biennial license renewal.

• Requires cosmetologists and registered specialists to complete a 1-hour course on domestic violence and sexual assault awareness as part of continuing education for license or registration renewal.

• Increases the maximum biennial continuing education requirement for cosmetologists and specialists from 16 hours to 17 hours to accommodate the new domestic violence and sexual assault awareness course.

• Authorizes the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and the board to prescribe rules implementing the domestic violence and sexual assault awareness course requirements.

• Takes effect July 1, 2017.
