Department of Education, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, must annually provide information to school districts about establishing school garden programs, including requirements, available state grants, and other resources.

Schools with garden programs may designate one day per week for students qualifying for free or reduced-price school lunch to select and receive produce from the garden.

Schools with garden programs may establish their own procedures for distributing produce to eligible students.

Schools with garden programs are exempt from any statute or rule prohibiting students from receiving or consuming produce grown in the school garden.

Effective date: July 1, 2017.
