HB 81 (2018) - Health Care Certification

• Creates sections 458.3113 and 459.0056 in Florida Statutes to prohibit the Boards of Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine, the Department of Health, health care facilities, and insurers from requiring maintenance of certification or recertification as conditions of licensure, reimbursement, or admitting privileges for physicians who have achieved initial board certification.

• Defines "maintenance of certification" as periodic testing, self-assessment requirements, peer evaluation, or other requirements imposed by the American Board of Medical Specialties and its member boards, and "recertification" as subsequent recognition of educational achievement beyond initial board certification.

• Declares legislative intent to improve efficiency of the health care market and eliminate unnecessary administrative and regulatory requirements.

• Allows the Boards of Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine to continue requiring continuing medical education for physicians.

• Takes effect July 1, 2018.
