Beginning with the 2018-2019 fiscal year, each Florida school district must annually conduct a self-assessment using the Office of Program and Policy Analysis and Government Accountability's best financial management practices tool.

District school superintendents must provide recommendations to their school board identifying strategies and activities to improve financial management, systems, and controls based on self-assessment findings.

District school boards must receive and discuss self-assessment results and recommendations at a publicly noticed meeting to allow the public to hear board members discuss and take action on the findings.

District school superintendents must report self-assessment results and any resulting school board actions to the Commissioner of Education within 3 days after the board meeting.

The act takes effect July 1, 2018.
