HB 285 - Emergency Medical Services Summary

• Defines "advanced life support nontransport services" as the provision of advanced life support by a licensee in an emergency until arrival of another ambulance or air ambulance for patient transport.

• Defines "emergency" as a medical condition with acute symptoms of severe severity where absence of immediate medical attention could reasonably jeopardize health or result in serious bodily impairment, including response to 911 calls.

• Exempts governmental entities that maintain fire rescue infrastructure and provide first responders from obtaining a certificate of public convenience and necessity to provide advanced life support nontransport services if they meet state requirements and use a countywide common medical protocol.

• Updates cross-references throughout Florida Statutes sections 14.33, 125.01045, 166.0446, 252.515, 395.1027, 401.245, and 401.27 to reflect new subsection numbering of definitions.

• Takes effect July 1, 2018.
