HB 379 Summary

• Adds 911 public safety telecommunicators to the Special Risk Class of the Florida Retirement System effective July 1, 2018.

• Requires 911 public safety telecommunicators to have their retirement benefits calculated using Regular Class provisions (1.60-1.68% of average final compensation) rather than Special Risk Class provisions (2-3% of average final compensation).

• Establishes employer retirement contribution rates for the new 911 public safety telecommunicator subclass at X.XX% of gross compensation, effective July 1, 2018 (actual percentage to be determined).

• Makes conforming changes to cross-references in sections 121.0515, 121.091, and 121.71 of Florida Statutes related to Special Risk Class membership criteria and benefit calculations.

• Declares the act fulfills an important state interest in providing fair, adequate, and actuarially sound retirement benefits for state and local government employees.
