Creates Florida Statute 83.491 requiring all rental agreements entered into on or after January 1, 2019, to specify whether renters insurance is required and include a line for tenant initials following that provision.

If renters insurance is required, the rental agreement must specify the coverage required.

If renters insurance is not required, the rental agreement must include a statement that "The tenant is not required to obtain renters insurance; however, the tenant is strongly advised to obtain renters insurance to cover damage to or loss of personal property."

Failure to provide the notice for non-required insurance does not create a private cause of action and does not nullify any part of the rental agreement.

Effective date: July 1, 2018.
