• Allows school principals and district superintendents to designate armed school employees or volunteers to carry concealed firearms on school property, with required background screening and annual training of 8 hours active shooter training plus 4 hours firearm proficiency training.

• Requires district school boards to establish policies for active shooter and hostage situations, with training conducted by designated law enforcement first responders to each school campus.

• Permits district school boards to commission one or more school safety officers on each school campus for protection of personnel, property, and students.

• Mandates law enforcement agencies designated as first responders conduct campus tours at least once every 3 years, with documented recommendations for safety and emergency improvements.

• Takes effect July 1, 2018.
