Board members of Sunshine Drainage District shall be elected by qualified electors of the district, making voter election the exclusive method for board selection.

First election held in November 2018 with three seats (seat 1, 2, and 3) elected at-large; seats 1 and 2 have 4-year terms and seat 3 has a 2-year term; thereafter all seats have 4-year terms with elections every 2 years.

All candidates must be electors and residents of the district; candidates can qualify by paying a filing fee (3 percent of annual office salary) plus election assessment (1 percent of annual office salary), or by petition signed by at least 1 percent of qualified electors.

Elections shall be nonpartisan and conducted per general election procedures, with the Broward County Supervisor of Elections administering ballot preparation, polling places, canvassing, and result certification.

"Qualified elector" defined as a person at least 18 years old who is a U.S. citizen, state permanent resident, district resident, and registered to vote with the county supervisor of elections.
