HB 953: Consumer Report Security Freezes

• Prohibits consumer reporting agencies from charging any fee to consumers for placing, removing, or temporarily lifting a security freeze on their consumer report.

• Eliminates fees for consumers aged 65 or older for initial placement or removal of a security freeze.

• Eliminates fees for identity theft victims who submit a valid investigative or incident report or law enforcement complaint at the time the freeze is requested.

• Prohibits consumer reporting agencies from charging fees to representatives of protected consumers for placing, removing, or temporarily lifting security freezes on the protected consumer's report.

• Takes effect July 1, 2018.
