HB 1313 Summary

• Establishes a statewide, centralized registry for tracking ST-elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients to address high mortality rates.

• Requires all PCI-capable health care facilities to report STEMI data quarterly using nationally recognized guidelines; other acute care hospitals are encouraged but not required to report.

• Defines "PCI-capable" as a health care facility with equipment, expertise, and facilities to administer percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for heart attack treatment.

• Directs the Department of Health to contract with a public or private entity to maintain the registry, collect data using a nationally recognized platform, and provide annual reports to the department beginning January 1, 2019, subject to legislative appropriation.

• Grants immunity from civil, criminal, and administrative liability to persons and health care providers who participate in good faith in providing information to the registry.

• Takes effect July 1, 2018.
